Bio: Lieutenant Christopher Robateau, formerly of Jersey City, was was 49 years old. Christopher joined the Jersey City Police Department in 1994 and quickly distinguished himself as a very kind compassionate officer.

Lt. Robateau received over 40 Meritorious Police Service Awards during his career. Christopher loved his family above all else. They remember him as a proud father, who loved spending time with his family and making them laugh, who enjoyed practical jokes, cigars, scary movies and lived for his vacation time with his family, planning every detail for months in advance. He was an amazing husband and father and his son Darin shared that his father 'was able to teach an important life lesson in only a few sentences'.

Summary: Lieutenant Christopher Robateau was struck and killed by a vehicle while checking on the welfare of another driver, whom he had just been involved in an accident with, on the New Jersey Turnpike, near exit 14.

Lieutenant Robateau, who was in uniform on his way to work shortly after 6:30 am, had exited his vehicle and was walking toward the other driver when another vehicle fatally struck him.

While Lt. Robateau was in his personal vehicle on his way to work, when he exited his vehicle to help someone he reverted to on-duty status; Jersey City officials deemed.

Disposition: All parties remained on the scene and assisted in the investigation. Charges, if any, are pending.
