Bio: Cpl. Jackson, was baptized at an early age at Little Rock Baptist church under the leadership of Rev. Harris Hayes. He was a graduate of the class of 2001 from Istrouma High School. He briefly attended Louisiana State University as an Engineer major. He later accepted his true calling, which was to protect and serve, and graduated from the Baton Rouge Police Academy on June 6, 2006.

He was united in holy matrimony with his loving and devoted wife Trenisha Lashay Jackson on July 15, 2012. One of the most blessed and joyous events in Cpl. Jackson's life was the birth of his son Mason Lyle Jackson on March 18, 2016.

Cpl. Jackson was an amazing husband, an outstanding father, a respectful son, a loving brother, an amazing uncle, a trustworthy godfather, and loyal friend. He was all about his family, as well as his blue family. Without a shadow of doubt, he loved his job, and his city, and he paid the ultimate sacrifice doing what he loved.

Fatal Incident Summary
Offender: Gavin Long :: Black / Male - 29 years old
of Kansas City. served in the Marines from 2005 to 2010, reaching the rank of sergeant. He deployed to Iraq from June 2008 to January 2009, according to military records. Believed to be the only person who fired at officers.

Location:   Baton Rouge,   E. Baton Rouge Parish County, LA   USA   Sun. Jul. 17, 2016
Summary: Corporal Montrell Jackson, Police Officer Matthew Gerald, and Deputy Sheriff Brad Garafola, of the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office, were shot and killed by a subject outside of a convenience store at 9611 Airline Highway shortly before 9:00 am.

Officers had received reports of a subject walking along the roadway carrying a rifle. As responding officers arrived in the area they were ambushed by the subject. Deputy Garafola, Corporal Jackson, and Officer Gerald were killed and three other officers were wounded, including one who was critically wounded.

The subject was shot and killed by other responding officers.
