Patrolman Charles Peterson was shot and killed while responding to a fire call on Queen City Avenue. A man had set fire to an apartment and had already shot and killed another man who attempted to put out the flames. When Patrolman Peterson saw the fire and attempted to put it out he was also shot and killed.
Patrolman Peterson had served with the agency for 9 years. He was a native of Denmark and had served in the United States Navy during the Spanish American War. He is buried in Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati, Ohio.
