Bio: Chris was born in Moorhead, MN to Jeffrey and Sharon Cummings.
Cummings was a long–time law enforcement officer in Obion County. He was a Sargeant with the Obion County Sheriff’s Office and served with the Union City Police Department before accepting the position as Samburg Chief.
Chris was a long-time law enforcement officer serving all citizens of Obion County. Prior to his time as Chief, Chris was a Sergeant with the Obion County Sheriff’s Office serving from 2018-2021 and the Union City Police Department from 1994-2018.
Anyone who knew Chris knew he would literally give you the shirt off his back. He always put others before himself. This was proven through his actions as a Law Enforcement Officer and his time in the military serving 28 plus years with United States Army and the Tennessee Army National Guard. Chris was a great friend to many and always seemed to have a smile on his face. His passions in life were his son Matthew, his girlfriend April, fishing, and serving his community without fail. Chief of Police Christopher Cummings suffered a fatal heart attack after assisting with the dismantling of a beaver dam.
The beaver dam was obstructing roads and causing flooding. Chief Cummings worked with other officers to tear down the structure, which was solid and difficult to tear apart. He stated that he did not feel well and was going back to the station. An hour later, when officers returned to the station, they found Chief Cummings unresponsive. Despite resuscitation efforts, he was pronounced deceased.
Chief of Police Cummings was a United States Army and Tennessee National Guard Iraq War veteran. He had served with the Samburg Police Department for two years and previously served with the Obion Sheriff's Office for three years and the Union City Police Department for 24 years. He is survived by his son, mother, father, girlfriend, and stepson.
