| Bio: Officer Abney was a United States Army Iraq War veteran.
Sr. Officer Trevor Aron Abney (NOPD) of Slidell, LA, was born in Slidell, Louisiana to Michael Bruce 'Ikey' Abney and Teresa Riley Abney. He was an honor student and graduated from Northshore High School.
Trevor then enlisted in the Army National Guard, which included one tour in Iraq and deployment with Task Force Gator in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. He also served as a volunteer firefighter with St. Tammany Parish Fire Dist. #11. Trevor also graduated from Delgado Community College with an associate degree in Fire Science and Technology.
Trevor began his law enforcement career in 2015 with the New Orleans Police Department. He honorably served the city of New Orleans for eight years until being ambushed in the line of duty. He was the recipient of the Medal of Merit for exemplary performance while saving the life of a citizen, as well as the Purple Heart Medal for injuries sustained in the line of duty.
He then dedicated his life to being a fulltime husband, stepfather, son, brother, nephew and uncle. Trevor's hobbies included baseball, football, fishing, and gaming. He will forever be remembered by family and friends for his love, dedication, and protection. |

| Summary: |
Senior Police Officer Trevor Abney succumbed to complications from a gunshot wound sustained on October 30th, 2020.
He and his partner were stopped at the intersection of St. Philip Street and Royal Street when a passenger in a passing pedicab opened fire on them without provocation. Officer Abney was struck in the left side of his face, and his partner suffered cuts to his arm from the shattered windshield.
The subject was apprehended after a foot chase through the French Quarter. He was charged with two counts of attempted murder of a police officer following the initial shooting.
Officer Abney was transported to the University Medical Center New Orleans where life-saving measures were performed. Doctors were unable to remove the bullet, which remained lodged in his brain and blinded him in the left eye. He succumbed to complications of the wound on April 9th, 2023.
