Summary: Officer Jackson Winkeler was shot and killed while conducting a traffic stop on Gilbert Avenue near the airport's terminal shortly before 6:00 am.

Suspect(Bell) was driving a white 2014 Chrysler 200 vehicle on airport property early Sunday morning when Officer Winkeler initiated a traffic stop. During stop, Susp. Bell opened fire on Officer Winkeler. Over 30 shots were exchanged during the ensuing shootout and Officer Winkeler was shot dead. Susp. stole Officer Winkeler's service weapon and fled the scene.

When backup units arrived, they found Officer Winkeler dead on scene and approx. 30 spent shell casings on ground. They also found a 9mm handgun near Off. Winkeler.

Florence County deputies were able to locate Susp(Bell) near Highway 52 and while performing traffic stop procedures, deputies found Winkeler's gun, along with a magazine that matched the 9mm handgun that was found by Winkeler's body.
