Bio: Deputy Sheriff Antonio Hinostroza was born in Sonora, CA.
Antonio known as 'Tony' by all who knew and loved him, served in the United States Marine Corps, four years active duty and four years as a reserve. Sgt. Antonio Hinostroza III was with the Security Force Company, Sebana Seca, Puerto Rico, Anti-Terrorism Naval Intelligence, Marine Expeditionary Unit Special Operations Capable Camp Pendleton, California, 1st Battalion 9th Marines, 1st Marine Division, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marines Division, Amphibious Assault Company, Scout Swimmer Platoon. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Pistol Expert Service Badge, Rifle Marksman Badge, and numerous Certificates of commendation and appreciation.
When he returned home from his military service, he began his career in law enforcement as a reserve police officer and dispatcher for the city of Waterford, prior to joining the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department. Deputy Sheriff Hinostroza was a 19-year veteran with the Stanislaus County Sheriff's department. During his career, he served as a patrol deputy, K9 handler, Gang Detective, SWAT team member, and Field Training Officer. Deputy Sheriff Hinostroza, received many commendations, accolades and letters of gratitude in his service, along with awards for vehicle theft recovery, known as the '10851' award presented by the California Highway Patrol. Tony was devoted to our community and our country; he served with integrity, honor, and valor.
Deputy Hinostroza was a 19-year veteran with the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department. He was assigned to the patrol division out of the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department main office. During his career, Deputy Hinostroza served as a patrol deputy, K9 handler, Gang Detective, SWAT team member, and Field Training Officer. Deputy Hinostroza was a Police Explorer for Ceres Police Department from 1990 until 1992 when he enlisted to serve in the United States Marine Corps until 1996. Deputy Hinostroza then worked as a reserve police officer and dispatcher for the city of Waterford before being hired by Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department. |

Summary: |
Deputy Tony Hinostroza was killed in a vehicle crash as he responded to assist other deputies who were involved in a vehicle pursuit in Riverbank.
The pursuit started after deputies had been called to check on the welfare of a subject who was sleeping behind the wheel of an SUV. As the deputies contacted the man he accelerated away from them, leading them on a pursuit.
As Deputy Hinostroza responded to assist in the pursuit his vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole at the intersection of Claribel Road and Terminal Avenue. Rescue personnel were unable to resuscitate him at the scene.
The subject involved in the vehicle pursuit fled on foot and fought with deputies after stop-sticks were successfully deployed. He was charged with fourth offense DUI, felony evasion, and resisting arrest.
