Summary: |
Police Officer Houston Largo succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained the previous night while responding to a domestic violence call along County Road 19 in Casamero Lake, New Mexico.
Off. Largo came across a truck early Sunday, occupied by a man(who was drunk and had been drinking all day) and a woman, while responding to a report of domestic violence at a rural address north of the town of Prewitt. The man shot and critically wounded twice. The man told his wife he shot the Officer and she should call for help for the officer and he then fled.
The female saw that the officer was down and called dispatch over his radio.
Authorities quickly identified one of the people in the vehicle as the suspect, and the search intensified as daylight broke. Footprints helped officers track the suspect, who was taken into custody later Sunday morning.
The shooting occurred at approximately 11:00 pm. He was flown to the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque where he passed away the following afternoon.
The subject was taken into custody.
