Fatal Incident Summary
Offender: David Machado :: Caucasian / Male - 37 years old
   Pic 1
Location: Fox Grove Park   Hughson, CA   USA   Sun. Nov. 13, 2016
Summary: Deputy Sheriff Dennis Wallace was shot and killed at Fox Grove Park, in Hughson, while investigating a suspicious vehicle.

He requested a backup officer after dispatchers alerted him that the vehicle was stolen. When the second deputy arrived he discovered Deputy Wallace suffering two gunshot wounds to the head. Physical evidenced showed the suspect(Machado) placed the barrel of his gun against the head of Dep. Wallace and fired.

The suspect fled the scene in the stolen car before carjacking a second vehicle, a 2009 white Kia Rio. While on the run, Machado traveled at least 150 miles before committing an armed robbery at a convenience store in Lindsay, about 15 miles east of the City of Tulare in the Central Valley. Then, shortly after noon, Machado tried to steal a purse from a woman, who fought back and called police.

Police officers who responded to her report chased Machado on foot and took him into custody.

Machado was identified through his tattoos and a photograph that had been released to other law enforcement agencies.

Machado was taken into custody by members of the Lindsay Police Department.
