Bio: Born in Livingston County, Ky., a community of soybean fields and cattle farms, Brian Jones first imagined becoming a cop. After high school, he left to join the Navy and served from 1999 until 2007 in Hawaii, Maryland and Hampton Roads.
Jones was assigned to Carrier Strike Group 2 between 2002 and 2005 and left the Navy as a petty officer second class, according to Navy records.
Jones had talked about becoming a police officer at a very young age and finally realized that childhood dream five years ago, when he got a job as a Norfolk police officer.

Summary: |
Police Officer Brian Jones was shot and killed from ambush in the 7400 block of Wellington Road while investigating an earlier shooting.
Shortly before 11:00 pm, the subject had been randomly firing his high-powered rifle at citizens, as he drove his Jeep down Chesapeake Boulevard, killing a 17-year-old boy. A short time later, Officer Jones located the subject vehicle parked outside of the subject's home on Wellington Road. Officer Curtis Allison, an off duty officer, responded to back him up and, as they approached the subject's vehicle, he opened fire on them from the doorway of his home.
Officer Jones was shot multiple times. Officer Allison was shot trying to assist Officer Jones.
The subject then fled the scene in his Jeep, and was located by another officer a short time later. After the subject crashed his vehicle, the subject exited with a firearm and began struggling with the officer who pursued him, attempting to take the Officer's sidearm. The subject was shot and killed during the ensuing struggle.
Officer Jones and Allison were both transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where Officer Jones succumbed to his wounds.
