of Fulton, is being charged with negligent homicide. Itawamaba County Sheriff Chris Dickinson said they believe Weaver was traveling about 75 miles per hour when he collided with Collum on John Rankin Highway while Collum was investigating a prowler.

Location:   Fulton,   Itawamba County, MS   USA   Fri. May. 09, 2014
Summary: Master Sergeant John Collum was stuck and killed by a vehicle on John Rankin Highway, just north of Fulton.

Sergeant Collum was investigating a possible prowler and trespassing complaint about 10:00 pm when he was struck by a car driven by a 19-year-old male. Sergeant Collum died at the scene. The driver remained at the crash site and was taken into custody by Sheriff's Deputies.

Investigators state that the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle slid over 300 feet before coming to a stop after striking Sergeant Collum. There were three other teens in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

Sergeant Collum's neighbor, who had called him to report a person trespassing on his property, witnessed the crash. The neighbor was talking to Sgt. Collum on the telephone when he was struck and killed.

Itawamba County Sheriff Chris Dickinson stated that it is very common for Fish and Wildlife Officers to assist other law enforcement agencies on these types of complaints.
