Summary: |
Officer Hutchison was shot and killed when he responded to a 911 hang-up call that involved a suicidal male subject.
The officer arrived at the scene on Jana Place and was ambushed when he walked to the door. He was shot twice in the back with a shotgun used by the suspect. The fatal rounds struck him in areas his vest did not protect.
A back up officer arrived on the scene moments later and discovered Officer Hutchison on the ground. The officer called for assistance and immediately began CPR.
A state police robot later located the suspect's body inside the house. The suspect had sustained a self inflicted gunshot wound.
Officer Hutchison had served with the Bossier City Police Department for just under 1 year. Previously, he had served with the Lufkin, Texas Police Department for 5.5 years.
Officer Hutchison is survived by his wife, parents, brother, and grandparents.

Tributes |
On Aug. 11, 2004 Bossier City Police Dept. lost it's first officer in over 30 years. Ofc. Trey Hutchison was answering a 911 hang up call. Trey was walking up to the front door of the residence when he was ambushed by the resident inside. Trey was shot twice and was wearing body armor. The suspects wife told the suspect that she was calling the police after she was threatened with a gun and he made the statement to her that he was going to kill any police officer that responded. The suspect after killing Trey commited suicide. It could have been any of his fellow officer's that answered that call but Trey just happened to be the one dispatched. I pray for Trey's family in this time and want them to know that I am truly sorry for their loss. Trey will never be forgotten among the officer's of the Bossier City Police Dept.
