Deputy Barton was killed in a commuter plane crash. Deputy Barton was on duty, en route to Gulfport, Mississippi, for an extradition case when the plane he was on crashed in Carrolton, Georgia, minutes after takeoff from Atlanta, Georgia. He died later at a hospital due to injuries received after the plane crashed.
