Deputy Dillon was killed in an automobile accident near Alamogordo, New Mexico, while en route to Las Cruces, New Mexico, to pickup several prisoners. He was driving on Highway 82 when the vehicle slid on the wet surface, crossed the center line, and struck a propane truck head-on.
