Location:   Virginoa Beach, VA   USA   Sun. Dec. 27, 1981
Summary: Officer Daniel Maloney was shot and killed by an attempted-rape suspect after attempting to stop a suspicious vehicle. Dispatchers had just taken the call from the victim and where getting ready to broadcast it when Officer Maloney radioed in the suspicious vehicle. When he attempted to stop the vehicle it sped away and Officer Maloney chased it into a dead-end on Challedon Drive. The suspect jumped out of the vehicle and ran towards Officer Maloney's police car firing, striking him several times through the driver's window.

Officer Maloney was able to radio that he had been shot as the suspect returned to his car and fled. Another officer stopped the vehicle and the suspect immediately exited and opened fire. The officer returned fired and killed the suspect.
