Lieutenant Louis Hinkel was shot and killed by a suspect armed with a rifle. When Lieutenant Hinkle arrived at the scene he attempted to talk the suspect into dropping the rife, but the suspect opened fire, killing Lieutenant Hinkel. The suspect was shot and killed by other officers.
