Officer Greer was shot and killed with his own weapon while struggling with a burglary suspect caught breaking into a grocery store. The suspect also shot another officer in the mouth, but that officer was able to return fire, striking the suspect in the chest.
The suspect was convicted of Officer Greer's murder and sentenced to life in prison on October 11, 1962.
Officer Greer was survived by his wife, son, and two daughters. He had been with the Tulsa Police Department for ten years.
