Summary:
Assistant Chief Huskey was shot and killed at about 0100 hours while he and another officer were patrolling the Minton Flour Mill. A series of thefts had occurred at the mill during the previous week. They observed three men at that location and attempted to make contact with them. The three men instead ran into a shed at the rear of the property. As the officers approached the shed, they were fired upon and Assistant Chief Huskey was fatally wounded. Three brothers were arrested, but found not guilty after several witnesses changed their testimony because of threats and bribes. Assistant Chief Huskey had been with his agency for one year and was survived by his wife and three children.
