Summary: |
Patrolman Uhle was shot and killed by a man who had just robbed the Marine Bank of $13,000 at Frenchman and Chartres Streets. Six days later the suspect was shot and killed in a gunfight with police at the Louisville and Nashville Depot in Mobile, Alabama.
A notebook found on the suspect stated that he had shot and killed Railroad Detective Thomas P. Griffin in Des Moines, Iowa, on November 16, 1923. He added "In case I get killed I want the truth to come out because two innocent men were sent to prison for the crime". The two were not released from prison because they were with the suspect robbing a train car when he killed Griff
